The enclosures you are dealing with are very efficient. And not all "generic' Horn EQ methods are the right one for most systems. There are many cheap 3-way X-Over that could basically Tri-amp this system, but if they don't have any form of CD EQ, juts forget it. The amplifiers all need a constant voltage gain amplifier. This band pass should also have CD Horn EQ in the form of a PEQ 2600 Hz with a bandwidth of 2.2 Octaves and -8 dB of cut, with a shelving EQ at 14 kHz with +12 dB of boost. The MF-1X should be X-Over at 1.6 kHz with a 4th order L/R filter function and have a mild -12 dB of rool off at 16 kHz with a Bessel filter. The MB-2 midrange enclosure, should lower X-Over point of 250 Hz with a and a High X-Over point of 1.6 kHz both with a 4th Order L/R filter. The Low Pass (High Cut) should be at 250 Hz with a 4th Order Linkwitz/Riley filter. I do not know of any analog crossovers that have one at these points. Now lets show the X-Over points and signal processing:įH-1 enclosure, since this is a low frequency enclosure (Not really a Sub) it must be High Passed (Low Cut) no lower than 50Hz, but better yet at 58 Hz, with a 4th Order -24 dB per Octave Linkwitz/Riley filter. Again both of the enclosures need to be properly bandpassed and equalized. You need a power amp of about 300 - 400 Watts for the MB-2's, and another of about 300 Watts for the MF-1X Horn (Yes you need that much because Power to compression drivers is calculated to be the Peak handling power as this is necessary for CD Horn EQ Headroom. You need a power amp that delivers no more than about 400 Watts per chanel to the FH-1 (but it must be properly bandpassed). Hey if she is going to live longer she might enjoy looking or sounding better! However add a VSX-26, it it will be like have had a very successful plastic surgery job on the old lady as well. You are refurbishing some older technology, it it like giving the patient a new heart, liver, and lungs. What you need to make this system really perform is a DSP Loudspeaker Management system such as a VSX-26. As Bartman or someone already told you about the 250 Hz cut off of that MB-2. This Low Pass out of the horn would be inappropriate for the MB-2. It was intended to feed the input of the FH-1 when it was sold as a two-way system. Okay the passive X-Over in the MF-1X horn has a Low Pass out that is 500 Hz and below. I want it rock solid when I set it up on stage for the first time. The MF1 horns still seem to work fine but should I open them up and have a look around?Īny information you guys can provide on this old system would be helpful to me.
